BCMS Family Update

Dear BCMS Families,

This was a great first week back from Spring Break and I hope everyone is enjoying this spring weather we are finally experiencing!

Our 7th grade students are diligently working to finish their Oral History Projects. This project is an amazing way for students to get to know someone in their life and better understand the context of their story. The event is open to parents to attend in our Aux Gym on Thursday, April 16th from 1:30-3:00 and 3:30-6:30pm. Please stop by and see the results of their hard work.

April 23rd is Take Your Child to Work Day. If you are planning on bringing your child with you to work, please log into Genesis to make an attendance note reflecting that. The earlier you are able to put it into the system helps our attendance office keep an accurate record of student attendance for the day. We appreciate your support!

Warm regards,
Beth Stanton
Principal, BCMS

Odyssey of the Mind

Congratulations to the BCMS Odyssey of the Mind BALSA team on their performance at the State Finals Competition at Princeton High School on March 28. The team had already won 2nd place at the Skylands Regional and was excited to compete again with their skit and weight-holding Balsa tower. With a tower holding over 200 pounds! at competition, BCMS Balsa team was very proud of their performance at the State Finals. In addition to competing, our team was able to watch multiple other teams compete in all different problem types and age groups. At the end of competition, they celebrated with over 90 other teams and hundreds of other OMer students. In addition, Mrs. Updegrove was awarded an OMER medal in honor of her 13 years of coaching.

Kite PATH Launcing

GATE PATH students were lucky to get a fantastically breezy spring day to test their team created tetrahedron kites on Tuesday this week. Students spent five PATH periods creating the parts for their kites and learning about the history and origins of kites. They were able to launch them on the soccer field, learning about wind speed, force and the consequences of knot-tying.! The sky almost looks fake, but it really was a BEAUTIFUL day for wind sports!

Update on America's Favorite Teacher Contest

WE DID IT!!!! Ms. Glick the Science Chick has made it to the TOP 10 and is now in the running for the TOP 5.

I could not have done it without everyone's support. Thank you so much!!! This round ends Thurs 4/16 at 10pm EST. Please continue to vote daily and share. I am holding steady in 3rd place.

This competition for America's Favorite Teacher is more than just winning an AWESOME assembly with Bill Nye the Science Guy and meeting the 1 person on this planet that I am in such awe of I am star struck.

-It's about remembering why I am a teacher and why I've stayed with the profession for a quarter of a century (yes, I'm that old!).
-It's about remembering my passion for science and my love of sharing that passion with others.
-It's about being there for kids during the beginning of their awkward passage into adulthood and giving them something "cool" to think about when life stresses them out.
-It's about being open minded and staying humble knowing there is always something more to learn.
-And finally, it's pushing me past my levels of comfort in campaigning for a cause, The Planetary Society and the future of space education/exploration.

Thank you~
Ms. Glick the Science Chick
