BCMS Friday Family Update

Dear BCMS Families,

We had a great week at BCMS, and I want to take a moment to highlight some of the wonderful things happening in our school community.

Spotlight on Student Leadership
This year we launched a brand-new Student Leadership course for 7th and 8th graders. Students who chose to be part of this course are already making an impact. As their teacher shared:

The 7th and 8th grade Student Leadership classes have been building a strong foundation with their class teams. Some recent lessons and activities have been centered around understanding each other's strengths and areas of growth, learning how to work as a team, and conducting interviews with staff members to learn more about BCMS. Groups are selecting projects that they will lead to enhance our BCMS school community.

We are so proud of how these students are stepping into leadership roles and finding ways to contribute to BCMS.

Professional Development for Staff
While students were home today, BCMS teachers engaged in a full day of professional learning. Our staff traveled to Somerville High School to participate in sessions on student engagement, the use of AI in education, and other timely topics. In addition, our teachers had the opportunity to articulate with Somerville Middle School and High School staff—sharing ideas and strategies that will ultimately help us better support our students’ learning and growth here at BCMS.

Looking Ahead
Next week, students will participate in MAP testing on Tuesday, October 7th (Reading) and Wednesday, October 8th (Math). Please encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep and arrive to school on time ready to give their best effort.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our students and staff.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Beth Stanton
Principal

Message from Somerville High School

Dear Parents,

We hope this message finds you well. As we continue to support our middle school students attending Pioneer football games, we’d like to remind everyone of an important guideline regarding student behavior during these events.

Middle school students are not permitted to be on turf field #3 on the visitor's side during football games. This rule is in place to ensure safety, maintain the integrity of the event, and avoid any disruptions to the game or our staff.

Please help us by reinforcing this policy with your child, and thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees.

Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your understanding!

Reverse Recess

Beginning Monday, October 6, students in all grades will have outdoor recess before eating lunch. Students will come to the cafeteria doors and drop off their lunchboxes and water bottles at their chosen tables just as they do now, but will then go outside once a staff member lets them out.

Students can also choose to skip recess and go straight to eating or ordering lunch if they choose. For days when recess is held inside due to inclement weather, students will eat lunch before recess.
