Falcon Family Message from Dr. Stanton

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well and that your family enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating summer. As we begin the new school year, we want to inform you of important revisions and clarifications made to our district’s attendance policy in alignment with the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE). These updates are designed to ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance with state regulations, including the compulsory education law (N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25 through 31) and attendance regulations (N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.6). These laws require all children between the ages of 6 and 16 to attend school regularly, and they define procedures for addressing unexcused absences and chronic absenteeism.

Under the revised policy, our district has clarified the definition of an “unexcused absence” and strengthened our on-going response system to better support students and families. For example, after four unexcused absences, schools will initiate early interventions and communicate directly with families. If absences reach five to nine days, a comprehensive action plan will be developed, and at ten or more unexcused absences, students may be considered truant, which could result in a referral to municipal court. Additionally, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25.1, schools are now required to develop a corrective action plan if 10% or more of their students are chronically absent. These changes reflect our commitment to addressing attendance challenges proactively and compassionately, with a focus on student well-being and academic success.

We deeply appreciate your continued partnership in ensuring that students are present, engaged, and ready to learn each day. Regular attendance is a key factor in academic achievement, social development, and long-term success. We encourage you to reach out to your student’s school with any questions or concerns about the updated policy or if your family needs support in maintaining consistent attendance. Together, we can create a learning environment where every student thrives.

Please use these links to reference the revised policy and procedures for the 2025-2026 school year. Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff in the Brachburg School District.

Warmly,
Dr. Beth Stanton

Message from Somerville High School

Dear Parents,

We hope this message finds you well. As we continue to support our middle school students attending Pioneer football games, we’d like to remind everyone of an important guideline regarding student behavior during these events.

Middle school students are not permitted to be on turf field #3 on the visitor's side during football games. This rule is in place to ensure safety, maintain the integrity of the event, and avoid any disruptions to the game or our staff.

Please help us by reinforcing this policy with your child, and thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees.

Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your understanding!
