J & J Scientist Visit

J & J Scientists Visit with BCMS 6th Graders

BCMS 6th grade students recently had an amazing opportunity to work with scientists and engineers from Johnson & Johnson sites all over New Jersey to learn more about their pathway to careers in the STEM field.

In addition to hearing their experiences, students continued their exploration of genetics alongside the J & J STEM staff.  Together, they completed a taste test experiment, using a litmus paper, to determine if they had a bitterness gene.  Using what they had learned about phenotype and genotype, students were able to make predictions about genes passed down from their parents.  We look forward to following up with the results shared through graphing the data.

We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to bring leaders in the STEM field to Branchburg through this J & J partnership (WiSTEM2D), a wonderful example of authentic learning!
